Giving Back

I’ve been asked many times over the years why do I donate to children’s charities? It’s not really a question of why I donate… People seem to understand the act of giving back. The question is more why do I choose children’s charities to donate to, and more specifically why Lilliput Families? The answer is simple: children are the future. They need a home; they need love and attention.  Research suggests that children prosper better when they are in a permanent home. Both of my children are adopted and giving back to an agency that helps find permanent homes (and “forever families”) for children is near and dear to my heart.  Helping kids and wanting the best for them comes natural to me and I feel so incredibly lucky to have the means to help in some small way.

I began the year with the goal to reach 30 transactions in 2021 to make a donation of $3,000 in teddy bears or cash. Thanks to my wonderful clients and hours of hard work, I was able to make another contribution to Lilliput Families. My 2021 goal was exceeded, and I am so happy to have reached 36 closed transactions for a total contribution of $3,600!

Every time I visit Lilliput Families, I hear another heartbreaking story and I’m filled with both sadness and utter enthusiasm to help make things better. This time, my whole office jumped in with our manager’s leadership and provided 25 children with gifts for Christmas… plus some added bears, stuffed animals, and books.
Thank you to Doni DeBolt, Associate Director of Development for Lilliput Families and Je'Tai Lawson, Social Worker for Lilliput Families for your help in bringing joy to these children. I feel so blessed and my heart is happy that I am able to pay it forward.

August 16, 2021

Yesterday, August 16, 2021, was a humbling experience. You may have seen my YouTube video, https://youtu.be/pp008mYRPN0, that ended with me in tears. There are so many children in the foster care system, and they have so many needs to be met. It isn’t a child asking for a video game or expensive toy. The children in foster care need basics like socks, underwear, shoes, school supplies, and comfort. Children are expensive, and especially with today’s rising costs of things due to the pandemic, sometimes the families need help for things like getting the child to a doctor’s appointment, providing an expensive calculator for the kids in advanced math, etc.

Many children and foster families need help. I am so happy that I was able to contribute to making lives better for some. With the financial support that comes from my clients trusting me to help them buy or sell a home, I was able to donate $2,600 from 26 real estate transactions this year. And with the added contribution of many stuffed animals from Pamela Burton, a client, some of the children will now have a new buddy by their side. Thank you again for your help to make some very special kids smile.

At the end of the year, I will make another donation. But more help is needed.
